The chef de caves alone decides whether to declare a vintage. The challenge is producing a symphony from a single note. The blend must contain only the wines produced from that year’s harvest, though the range of crus available ensures a rich supply of different tones. G.H. Mumm has declared 53 Cordon Rouge vintages in 130 years.

Nosing

With the nose :

The nose enchants from the first with aromas of fresh flowers and crystallised citrus fruit. These give way to more masculine fragrances of dried apricots, Corinth raisins, blond tobacco and vanilla.

with the mouth :

The palate is struck straight away by the sheer depth, freshness and energy of this wine. The sparkle is subtle, underlining the Chardonnay’s finesse.

Commentary :

The composition of this wine varies from that of Cordon Rouge Brut.
Grape Varieties :
Pinot Noirs predominate with 69%of the blend. They provide depth and intensity. There’s a strong majority of crus from the northern Montagne de Reims for their longevity. Chardonnays in a proportion of 31% bring the touch of lightness and freshness characteristic of every G.H. Mumm cuvée.
