Champagne MUMM Grand Cru.

A blend of wines from the five main regions of Champagne, Aÿ, Bouzy, Avize, Verzenay and Cramant, all rated 100% on the quality scale. The saying that “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts” describes this cuvée perfectly. Its creation is an annual exercise in balancing the different shades of flavour. The balance is needed as the proportions in which the wines are blended vary each year to produce consistency of taste. The shades of flavour refer to the contrasting qualities of the different terroirs that come together in a harmony of flavours.

Nosing

With the nose :

The nose opens on fresh, crisp aromas and honey, the richness then giving way to floral notes (white flowers), vanilla-sweetness, wax and lush white fruit.

with the mouth :

On tasting, the champagne's depth of character is immediately discernible, given extra force by the refreshing, consistent sparkle. The long, delicate finish is bewitching. The final impression left by G.H. Mumm Grand Cru is invariably one of harmony and completeness.

final taste :

G.H. Mumm Grand Cru is a marvellous marriage of Pinots Noirs and Chardonnays taken exclusively from five Grands Crus rated at 100%.

Commentary :

Of the Pinots Noirs, Aÿ (10.6%) reconciles the depth of the Bouzy wines (10.5%) with the great length of those from Verzenay (36.8%). Among the Chardonnays, Cramant (28.4%) and Avize (14.7%) respectively lend a flinty, mineral richness and an elegant lightness of touch.
