This rare cuvée, made since 1882 exclusively with Chardonnay grapes from the Cramant terroir, has been available for sale only since 1960. Before then, it was reserved for the directors and friends of the House. The label, folded over in one corner, recalls the practice formerly used with visiting cards of folding the corners to show they were delivered in person. Mumm de Cramant was likewise hand-delivered to the recipient.

The chef de caves chose not declare vintages for this cuvée, even though it’s the product of wines from a single year to ensure maximum freshness and delicacy. While foregoing the opportunity to put a vintage on the label, the House nonetheless gains a highly distinctive wine without equivalent in the marketplace. This exceptional cuvée can only be found in specialist outlets and the very best restaurants.

Nosing

With the nose :

The nose is of white flowers, fresh fruit and lemon.
Young, fresh aromas predominate with an inherent elegance.

with the mouth :

The taste opens on fresh fruit and lemon, followed by grapefruit and kumquat notes. The gentle sparkle, at first expansive, gives way to the Chardonnay grape’s natural grandeur.

Commentary :

Mumm de Cramant is made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes grown around Cramant, a village on the Côte des Blancs that's among the 17 classed as Grands Crus in 1911.
The House of G.H. Mumm owns 20.38 hectares of vineyards there. This cuvée is fermented to a lower pressure than the other Mumm champagnes, 4.5 bar, giving it a gentle sparkle. With its light dosage of nearly 6 grams, this is an honest wine without need of artifice. Elegant, lightly sparkling, exceptionally fresh and pure, Mumm de Cramant is one of the best Blanc de Blancs champagnes available.
